Well it has been quite an eventful time
since our last Blog. Sarah’s parents came out for an 11 day visit, and it
turned out to be very fortuitous timing, not least because Sarah’s mum Jane was
a life saver – literally!
About a week into their stay Noah woke up
with croup, but after being up an hour seemed happy and well enough to head off
to nursery. About an hour later Betty, the lady who looks after him, phoned
Sarah to say he was struggling a bit and it would probably be best to come and
pick him up.
Sarah and Jane headed off to pick up Noah,
leaving Emily asleep with Grandpa (David) in charge, only to find upon arrival
that Noah was in a grave condition. He was turning blue, was very agitated and
disorientated and his condition was deteriorating quickly. Sarah grabbed him
and put him in the car before displaying her best high speed Raleigh driving
skills on the way to a clinic in town. On the way Sarah shouted back to Jane,
“is he breathing?” He was not. Jane then proceeded to give Noah some mouth-to-mouth
resuscitation, before arriving at the clinic, which was completely useless as
they had no oxygen. After some more mouth-to-mouth (from Dr. Sarah this time),
it was off to Kitovu Hospital by which time Noah had started to improve.
We thank God that Sarah was not alone and
had Jane with her, and that Emily was safely asleep at home through this
ordeal! It meant that it was a rather traumatic stay for Jane and David. Jane will
no doubt always recollect the day she helped save her grandson’s life whilst
David may need counseling to overcome the horrors of ending up having to change
Emily’s stinky bottom!!!
On a serious note – we really recommend
that you get to know a bit of basic CPR as you never know when you may need to
use it! If you don’t already know the basics, check out the link below to get
started!
Where was Tim throughout all of this? Well
he was busy conducting the first and long awaited “Talk faith” session with the
Synergy Senior team, and only found out once Sarah reached Kitovu and had
access to a phone (she had left her phone with David at home).
Some of the players during the first Talk Faith session |
We have so far completed 3 of our Talk
Faith sessions, and it’s been great to see the lads’ response to our
exploration of Christianity, with some of them coming out with some very
interesting and challenging questions. We hope it will bare lots of spiritual
fruit as we push on with these sessions through until mid-March.
Another thing Sarah’s parents had to
contend with during their stay in Bwala was extremely early morning wake up
calls courtesy of our cock – Mr. Loverman. As in the film The Silence of the Lambs, the words “We’re
having an old friend for dinner” rang true, as a tasty, albeit rather tough,
chicken curry ensued!
Finally a little fundraising plug. A number
of the River of Life Staff, White Eagles and Leadership Academy members are
taking on what must be one of the toughest challenges to date. A 26 mile marathon
from Nyendo to Lake Nabugabo and back to raise money for school and university
fees! If you are interested in encouraging them, please head over to the
following link to donate something!
